Plainfield is a village on the DuPage River, mostly in Will County with pieces reaching into Kendall, and it's one of the faster-growing towns in the whole area. Most of the housing went up during the building boom of the 1990s and 2000s, so you'll find a lot of newer single-family subdivisions, many of them with an HOA, alongside an older, walkable historic downtown along Lockport Street that anchors the village.
For buyers, Plainfield tends to mean newer construction, more space, and a lot to choose from. Inventory here is deep, which gives buyers room to be selective. The trade-off is location: Plainfield sits out toward the western edge of the metro, so commutes run longer, and there's no Metra station in town. I-55 is the main artery for drivers, and the town leans on its downtown, its parks, and the river as its center.
