Homer Glen is a village in Will County, on the southwest edge of the Chicago metro. It's one of the newer villages around here. It didn't incorporate until 2001, and it kept a lot of the open, semi-rural character that drew people out this way in the first place. You'll see bigger lots, more space between houses, and pockets of genuinely rural land sitting right next to newer subdivisions.
The village has leaned into that on purpose. Zoning here has favored larger parcels and lower density, so even as new construction has gone up, Homer Glen hasn't turned into wall-to-wall subdivisions the way some suburbs have. The housing runs from original ranches and farmhouses to two-story new builds on an acre or more.
For buyers coming from denser suburbs or the city, the trade is straightforward: more room and a quieter setting — in exchange for a longer drive to some things and a bit more property to keep up. I-355 runs along the east side, which makes the commute north toward the city or south toward Joliet manageable. If you want space without going fully rural, Homer Glen tends to be where people land.
